Hi, Friend!
I will be frank and will try to keep this intro short.
I am compiling this post because I have casually mentioned to several people about this protocol or options for kidney stones, but I typically refer them to the original source where I learned this information, Sue Meyer of Homeopathy for Mommies.
I am not the originator of this protocol, nor is Sue, but I am not sure exactly where the info is written down/organized, and many people are generally too busy to listen to a podcast (and I’m not sure exactly which podcast of hers has this information all together), so I am compiling it here. The protocol actually originates from Dr. James Compton Burnett, who died at the age of 60 in 1901.
This post is for informational purposes only, and is not medical advice nor intended to treat or diagnose any condition, this is just my experience with this idea, and you are responsible for any modalities you use and their effects. You should consult a doctor/seek treatment for any medical condition you have. Please see my policies here. This post may contain affiliate links, since I am giving you links to the types of products I use, and I may receive a small commission at no cost to you, should you make a purchase.
First, I will list the products I’ve used, and then how I’ve used them.

Here’s How I Have Used This Homeopathic Protocol for Kidney Stones
I have used this protocol for a couple of loved ones in my life. One I know passed her kidney stone, the other I’m not sure, but it did get rid of the pain she suspected from kidney stones, as it was a similar pain as her prior stone passing.
General info about the remedies:
Benzoic Acid: Has an affinity for the kidneys. I don’t have a lot of individual experience with this remedy other than in this protocol, if you’d like to learn more, here’s a podcast that focuses on this remedy.
Silica/Silicea: (same remedy, goes by either name interchangeably) This remedy is good for the body in generally pushing out foreign bodies and things that the body creates that aren’t naturally occurring in the body. It is optional – you SHOULD NOT use this remedy if you have any dental implants, metal plates or screws from surgery, breast or other implants, still-remaining shrapnel, etc…. anything foreign to the natural body, as it could push them out. Now, don’t panic. I have had people use this silica remedy who have non-naturally occuring foreign bodies internally, and it has had no effect on them or their faux body parts, but general guidance in the homeopathic community is err on the side of caution and not to use silica.
Berberis: Has an affinity for helping out the bladder & kidneys. I will say, I do love this remedy. It has helped me with a few random kidney/bladder affectations. With the only kidney stone I’ve ever had, this remedy was the only one I knew about at the time, and helped me pass the stone. I wasn’t sure what exactly I was dealing with for the past few days (had a “prickling” urethral pain, and once a day had a quick bout of fatigue with nausea and flushing). I suspected a kidney stone, and berberis helped me pass a ¼ inch stone with lots of burrs in an afternoon, with only quick, moderate pain a few hours before and during a blessedly quick passing.
Belladonna: This remedy can dilate the urethral sphincter, reportedly from 3-4mm up to 10mm. This can help the pain in passing, especially for men who have longer urethras which makes the passing painful.
Chanca piedra: This liquid tincture or pill form herb is known as the “stone-breaker”, and can reportedly do just that. I have not personally used this herb, just know its reputation.
How I Use This Protocol
I do the benzoic acid, silica, berberis, and belladonna, in that order, one every few (maybe 3-4) hours. If there is lot of pain of the stone in passing through the urethra, I may use the belladonna a little more frequently, just as pain arises.
If I start to notice my body doing anything odd, it may mean my body doesn’t need a particular remedy I took, maybe the last, or just watch reactions after each particular remedy. That hasn’t happened yet, and I doubt you’ll need too many repetitions of the protocol, but it’s just a word of advice.
Side Note: One Theory on Where Kidney Stones Come From
I have done quite a bit of reading on how kidney stones develop and how to avoid it. There is much online talk of avoiding foods and drinks high in oxolates, i.e., coffees, teas, dairy, spinach, etc.
I once asked a British man about whether they have a lot of kidney stones in the UK, since they frequently have milk directly in their hot tea. Seemingly, if he affirmed that they did, it would help prove the oxolate theory.
However, he said that they do not have lots of kidney stones in Britain. According to him, the problem here in the US (and I don’t really know why he knew about this particular subject or had thought/researched on it), is that we have such hard water and other sediments from additions and subtractions to the water in our municipalities, that the sediment collects in the kidneys and forms a stone.
To me, this makes a lot of sense. I mean, if it’s going to create a ring in your toilet that you have to literally scrape off with a pumice stone, then why couldn’t it do similar in your kidneys??
So, moral of the story – if you have a recurrence of kidney stones or maybe moved in the last few years and begun having them, it could be your water, and you may benefit from installing a water filter/softener.
I am pretty sure that the kidney stone I had was from taking diatomaceous earth, a sedimentary rock that is ground into a soft powder, that I used as part of a parasite protocol. I believe that it collected together because I didn’t drink enough water to flush it out, and let me tell you, it was very pointy and a bit painful as it passed through to get out. I believe that using it again later caused some other bladder/urethral scarring issues. Lesson learned.
That is all the info I have on these remedies and this protocol for kidney stones. I hope this helps! Let me know if you have questions.
Thanks for reading, and God bless!
