You read that headline right.
I have discovered a product that has helped me to completely eliminate hair regrowth issues when practicing that lovely hair removal task us women (and many men) undergo to make ourselves look better.
And I’ll let you in on a little secret – the product is non-toxic, too! Actually, it’s completely chemical-free.
This won’t be a long post, as it is one easy solution via a specific product/device. Disclaimers: This post will include affiliate links which means I may make a commission if you make a purchase. You should consult your doctor before using this or any related product that affects your skin.
My Hair Removal Trails
Here’s a quick backstory on why I feel the need to share this trick:
I have always struggled with thin hair on top of my head. Buuuut, not so much in other areas, one in particular, if you know what I mean. (Psst: the bikini area.)
Tmi? Sorry. But if it helps you (as I wish someone would have told me), then not sorry.
As a teenager I was always insecure wearing bathing suits because you could always see my bikini line shaved, with red bumps. And then, a few days later, the itching and ingrown hairs would begin as the hair grew back. Ugh.
One day, I was watching an ad about a device that would help hair grow back slower and possibly eliminate hair with regular use.
Lol, sign me up for bathing suit season! So, I purchased on and have been so doggone glad that I did!
How I Remove Hair Without Irritation
Okay, the trick, I won’t hold you in suspense longer:
An IPL Hair Remover. This is the one I bought. And it is MAGICAL. Let me explain.
How I Use The IPL Hair Removal
Now, your model will come with usage instructions. It is very important to follow the guidelines, and especially the recommendations of how frequently to use the device.
My routine:
- I will shave the area. I usually don’t use any sort of shaving cream, but I go slowly and gently, especially around the bikini area because who wants a nick down there??
If I am in the shower, I’ll use a regular razor. If I have taken a bath, which I do most often, I will use this wet/dry razor that I saw promoted on tiktok. It really is pretty good, and I like most that it is very convenient, I can use it any time. The charge also lasts a long time.
2. Usually after I’m resting/cooling off after my bath or shower, I will start in with the IPL device.

Then, I select my level and go slowly over each area, as there’s not a wide zapper window.
Tip: If you get the device I use (I can’t speak to others, maybe they have this feature too), if you hold the trigger down for two flashes, you won’t have to hold it down for the rest of the session.
Pretty cool when you want to readjust your hand. I also chose this model over others because it is right angled so I figured I could readjust how I was holding it easier than a device that was flat.
The whole process only takes about 15 minutes or less. And, let’s just say, I’ve done more than just the sides of my bikini line… I’ve done a little further in.. Quite a bit further in because that’s a look I want. You can do as much or as little as you want.
Settings: On my device, there are 5 squiggly lines that you can choose from to select the intensity level. I usually use the 4 lines if it is right out of the shower/bath.
You will choose your setting level based on whatever recommendation is on your device – usually how dark your skin is (darker skinned persons won’t benefit from this treatment), how dark the hair is in the removal area – and how intensely you want to go after hair removal.
But don’t start higher and go lower, start lower and go higher – the higher settings may not be optimal for your particular skin.
My hair is dark so I may not need a 4 but I want to make sure I get it done!
You’ll see above that my device came with a set of green glasses to shield my eyes, so PLEASE use those. (It appears new models come with different glasses.) Protect your eyes. Sometimes I even shield my eyes from the light flash area, even with the glasses on.

Does IPL Hair Removal Hurt?
I will tell you the truth here. It usually does not hurt with this device, even at level 4 settings. I feel like my hair is dark enough that I could decrease the level and be fine, but ‘go big or go home’, I say.
Now, occaaaaasionally, I will have a slight sting from the hair removal on level 4. Why? I’m not sure.
I have noticed that it tends to sting a bit more when I haven’t take a shower/bath immediately before. So maybe there’s something about the hot water that helps to desensitize my nerves a little bit?
But the sting is quite minimal and very temporary. If it gets to be too much for you, you can always turn the level down and still get good results.
But again, most of the time I do it, I don’t have any problem. Even in the most sensitive of areas, ahem…
Where Can You Use IPL Treatments? Can It Be Used on the Face?
You can use the IPL device practically anywhere you have hair, including your face, neck, armpits, arms, bikini area, legs.
Have a husband with hairy upper arms? Here ya go.
I know a lot of men suffer with pseudofolliculitis barbae – ingrown hairs from shaving. This device would probably help that out really well.

I notice that most devices don’t mention two areas: backs and genital areas. The skin on these areas are generally fairly tender, and if somehow they react badly, it’ll be a little worse than some of the tougher areas that usually get more exposed, so ‘user beware’ is all I’ll say, if you try to do those areas.
Does IPL Help Ingrown Hairs, Razor Burn, and Itching?
I would say absolutely yes it does. At least for me it has, in a major way.
Now, razor burn may be more from your actual razor. However, once you start using this device, you won’t have to use your razor nearly as often.
And the itching of hair growing back after a normal shave. OOooooooohh my goodness, the itching. If you’ve ever shaved your bikini line and had it grow back, you know that itching. Incessant.
But I have not had that be the norm after using the device. I will say, the first time I shaved a new area and used the device, there was a tiny bit of itching. But it was not nearly as bad as normal, and usually goes away with the next treatment.
And you will want to do more frequent treatments when you’re beginning to use the IPL. Refer to your device’s instructions to figure out how often.
So even when the hair grows back, shaving doesn’t result in ingrown hairs or itching any more when I follow it up with an IPL Treatment. Hallelujah!! I wish teenage me would have had access to this technology!!
Does IPL Irritate Skin
Any time that you hit skin with a laser, there is a chance that the skin will get a little red and possibly sting a little.
I haven’t had this issue at all. However, I would advise that until you have used the device several times and know how your skin will react, do it when you won’t be going anywhere for several hours, just in case.
Also, just know that the higher setting you use will be more likely to irritate skin, which is why I advise that you start out low and slow.
My Results From IPL Hair Removal
My main goal in buying my IPL laser device was for my bikini line. I also had a line of dark hairs going down from my belly button (a “happy trail” some people call it.)
I say I “had” a line of those hairs, because I no longer do. It has been several months since I have had to treat that area, though I do occasionally for maintenance, but I no longer have those dark hairs! YAY!!!
When I first started using the device, I used it on my bikini line, armpits, and legs, and aforementioned happy trail.
I occasionally do it on my armpits, but not regularly any more at all, however I do feel like the amount of hair has decreased there and I definitely have to shave my armpits less.
I did it on my legs but I’ve really never had much trouble shaving nor do I have thick hairs on my legs, so I really don’t do that. But, as with my armpits, I have to shave a lot less and the amount of hair has decreased.
My bikini area. As I mentioned previously, I have gone in further and further on my “bikini line”.
My first several months of using, I gradually had to shave less and less, getting to the point of not having to shave at all to be in a bathing suit.
As I am progressing inward and downward on the area in general, while it is the most persistent area of hair growth I have (ugh, why can’t my hair on my head be as generous), it is still in treatment as battle lines continue to be drawn further down, so to speak.
It’s not an overnight process, but if you stick with it, you will likely be very well pleased as I am. The purchase of this device is worth it just for the itching and ingrown hairs to be gone with hair regrowth and shaving!
So, Yes! I am definitely glad I bought this product. It is safe, easy to use, and I don’t have to worry about toxic chemicals burning my skin!
